Create a Treasure Map for Career Success
For students who are more visual or need reminders of their goals and what they are working towards, making a treasure map can be a powerful technique. A treasure map is an actual, physical picture of your desired reality. This can look like a collage or a concept map of the steps needed to reach this reality. It can be as big or small as the student desires. An index card or piece of cardboard that will fit in notebook would work.
- Create a treasure map of your goal of becoming a nurse. What kind of nurse will you be? Where will you work? Draw or find pictures that resemble your desired reality. Include a picture of yourself so that you remind yourself that you are the center of the reality. Show yourself having positive interactions with coworkers.
- Show the situation in its ideal, complete form, as if it already exists. Don’t show anything negative or undesirable.
- Use lots of color in your map to increase the power and impact on your consciousness.
- Put affirmations on your treasure map. “Believe” “Inspire” “Making a Difference” “saving lives”
- Spend minutes each day quietly looking at it.
